FileBrowser2Pro is a file browser program with a couple of special features.
- It will show invisible items
- It has access to the invisible folders
- There is a list that tells how many items a folder includes
- It can make visible items invisible and vice versa
- It can move an item in the trash or delete it immediately
- It can change the creator code or the type code of the file
- It can read the datafork of the document in the text field, so it will be easily recognized
- It shows item's name, type, visibility, size and number of items inside the folder
- It shows created and modified date, the creator and the type, the size of resource fork of the active item, and by clicking the icon folder size, it shows the items inside or datafork as text
Who needs FileBrowser2Pro?
--------------------------
FileBrowser2Pro is made for network administrator. He needs to see inside the invisible Network Trash Folder. There might be several hundreds of Trash Can folders. Administrator should in one look to see which of them are empty and in which of them there is something. I don't know any other program that could serve this purpose and could sort those folders by the amount of items inside the folder.
The administrator also needs to see how big the user's folders are in the server.
The administrator has to know which programs there are in the computers of the network. Apple System Profiler shows only programs in the startup disk and not even all of them if there are too many. FB2P scans all disks. When these lists have been made in all the computers in the network, they can be read into the spreadsheets or database and sorted so that you can see if there are too many copies comparing the license or if there are programs, which are illegally installed by users. These saved lists are intended to use with database of spreadsheets to study the situation now and later.
Functions
---------
Activate the item by clicking the mouse or pushing an arrow key (up or down).
You can activate all; menu: Edit->Select All or Command-A
Clicking the item in the list will show the information of it and a big icon in the right part of the window.
Double clicking the item in the list will
- open the folder in the list
- open the application in Finder
- open the document corresponding to its creator code in the application
You can make the item invisible; menu Extra->Visible->Make Invisible,
or visible, menu Extra->Visible->Make Visible
You can copy the item to folder you choose; Extra->Move->Copy File or Folder to...
or move the item in the trash; Extra->Delete->Move to Trash
or delete it definitively; Extra->Delete->Delete Definitively
You will see the folder size and the items inside by clicking the big icon on the right side of the window or
Choosing menu command "Show Folder Size" in the Extra menu FB2P calculates the size of the active folder, the amount of documents and folders inside the active folder.
You can make a tab delimiter file of the folder which is in the open window by menu command Extra->Save Window as List…
You can make a tab delimiter file of all the programs and control panels by menu command Extra->Save Application List…
You can get the datafork of the document as text in the text field by clicking the big icon in the right side of the window or
Choosing menu command "Show as Text" in the Extra menu FB2P reads the active document in the text field.
You can open the folder by double clicking the line in the list field or command-O short cut opens the active folder
You get the previous level by popup-menu upside the window or short cut command-R
Favorite Folders
----------------
You can save the folder which you frequently keep an eye on, by the menu command File->Favorite Folders->Add to Favorite Folders or by keyboard short cut command-T. The Favorite Folders are saved in the preference file when you are quiting.
You can remove a favorite folder from the menu pressing the option button and choosing the menu item.
Changing The Creator Code and The Type Code

You can change the creator code or the type code by the menu command Extra->Change Type or Creator Codes…. It opens the Changing window, where you can use the popupmenus.
- The both menus have some codes as default.
- If the code doesn't exist you can choose to type it yourself, or
you can pick the file where you can take the codes automatically by
clicking the "Same as..." button.
- Every code you add is saved in the preferences.
- If there are too many codes in those menus, you can remove the
items you don't need: control click first to open the menu and press
option button when you select the item.
You can use The Contextual Menus, too:
- The Creator Code can be changed: control click in the Creator Field
opens the menu.
- The Type Code can be changed: control click in the Type Field opens the menu.
Show in the list checkboxes
---------------------------
Icon; turn off for increasing the speed
Basic icons; quicker but doesn't always show the exact icons.
Exact icons; shows the icons as they are, but is the slowest alternative.
Anyway the big icon is always shown as it really is.
Kind; turn on if you want to see the 4-letter type code of the document.
Size; turn on and you'll see the size of the document (Mb). It will slow down the computer to some extent.
Visible; turn on, if you want to see which items are visible (marked "X") in Finder.
Items inside; tells how many items there are in the folder (doesn't calculate inner levels).
Invisible Items; Shows the invisible items in the list if Invisible Items checkbox is checked.
Show JPEGs in the Info Window; Shows JPEG pictures in the picture field instead of the thumbnail when the JPEG checkbox is checked.
Show Info window at Startup; Forces the Info window to open in every launch irrespective of whether it was open or closed during the previous quitting
Complete path in Favorite menu; If checked, you see the full paths in Favorite Folders and in Recent Folders. If unchecked, you see only the names of the target folder in Favorite Folders and in Recent Folders.
Auto Refresh the List; if on, the list will be refreshed when the program is activated. May slow down the performance.
You can refresh the list any time by pushing the "Refresh" button.
Known incompatibilities

FileBrowser2Pro cannot read a hard disk that is protected with Password Security Control Panel. If you try, FileBrowser2Pro will give you an error message and quit.
Work Around: Turn Password Security off and restart the computer.

There is now a possibility to make a tab delimiter file of the folder which is in the open window. This file you can read to the spreadsheet or to the database program. There is also a possibility to make a tab delimiter file of all the programs and control panels. This file can also be read to the spreadsheet or to the database program.
Now you can save the information on the files in a certain folder and make a comparison between the information from some other time. You may find out if you have a multiple copy of the same program, you can see inside the invisible folders and look for illegally installed programs for instance in the network of your office or the school.

This upgrade was made for the power user. It is possible to open a folder in its own window by clicking the big folder icon when pressing down option and command keys. In new window
- you can delete all the selected files and folders by clicking path field in the bottom of the window while you pressing down option and command keys
- when this new window is closed, only the information of this folder will be updated in the main window
- this function is useful when you open the folder in which there are several hundreds of items in the main window; this could be the case in certain conditions for instance in the Network Trash Folder
